File Storage is a core feature in Veracity Data Workbench that allows you to upload, organize, share, and access files securely. In this article, we'll walk you through a quick overview of the main features and how to get started.

Where to find File Storage

To access File Storage:

  1. Go to your workspace in Veracity Data Workbench.

  2. Navigate to the Data Catalogue.

  3. Open the File storage tab.

If you don’t see the File Storage tab, you may not have the necessary subscription. Contact support for help.

Organize your files with folders

Folders help you structure your files by project, department, or data type.

To create a folder:

  1. Select Create folder in the top-right corner.

  2. Name the folder.

  3. Click Save.

Only workspace admins can create or delete folders.
Folders cannot be renamed or moved.

Upload your files

To upload one or more files:

  1. Click Upload files in the top-right corner.

  2. Select files from your computer, or drag and drop them.

  3. Click Upload.

Work with files using the action menu

Next to each file or folder, use the three-dot menu to:

  • Download the item.

  • Share it with others.

  • Revoke sharing.

  • Generate SAS keys (admins only).

  • Delete the item (admins only).

Share files and folders with others

To share an item:

  1. Click the three-dot menu next to it and choose Share.

  2. Enter the recipient’s email.

  3. Set their access level:

    a. Read – view and download only.

    b. Read and write – modify content and generate SAS keys.

  4. Optionally allow the recipient to re-share.

  5. Click Share.

Shared items appear in the recipient’s Shared with me tab in the Data Catalogue.

Note: Deleting a shared item only removes it from the recipient's workspace—not yours.

Control access with SAS keys

Admins can generate SAS (Shared Access Signature) keys to give time-limited access to external systems.

To generate a SAS key:

  1. Open the three-dot menu next to the item.

  2. Choose Generate key.

  3. Set the access level and expiration date.

  4. Click Generate key, then Copy key.

You can also generate workspace-wide keys or revoke all SAS keys using the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of File Storage.

Best practice: Use the minimum required access level and an expiration date. You can revoke individual keys or use Revoke all SAS keys to remove access system-wide.

Deleting shared content

Only the original owner can permanently delete shared files or folders.
If someone you’ve shared with deletes the item, it is removed only from their view—not yours.

Sharing vs SAS keys

Use sharing when you want to give people access within the Data Workbench environment.
Use SAS keys when you want to grant access to systems or applications that don’t use Veracity accounts.
